How Much Does a Heated Driveway Cost to operate?
Below please find an energy calculator. Please use it to see what your operating cost per storm will be. The obvious benefit of knowing your family members will return home safely? Only you can calculate that.
Some examples are given below so that you can approximate your square footage. Lets say you only want to do tire tracks to get you up or down an incline on your driveway.
100 foot tracks = 400 square feet - 100 foot long x 2 foot wide = 200 square feet x 2 tracks = 400
200 foot tracks = 800 square feet - 200 foot long x 2 foot wide = 400 square feet x 2 tracks = 800
300 foot tracks = 1200 square feet - 300 foot long x 2 foot wide = 600 square feet x 2 tracks =1200
400 foot tracks = 1600 square feet - 400 foor long x 2 foot wide = 800 square feet x 2 tracks =1600
500 foot tracks = 2000 square feet - 500 foot long x 2 foot wide = 1000 square feet x 2 tracks 2000
Pad in front of single car garage = 9 foot wide x 30 for turn around / backup area = 270 square feet
Pad in front of double car garage = 18 foot wide x 30 for turn around / backup area = 540 square feet
Pad in front of triple car garage = 27 foot wide x 30 for turn around / backup area = 810 square feet
On average a two car garage pad area (540 square feet) and a 100 foot long set of tracks (400 square feet) equals 940 square feet of snow/ice free driveway. includes total kW cost, 34.8 kW's.and would cost you approximately $23.49. *plus any taxes, etc that utilites charge. Just think, thats almost 1000 square feet of Snow and Ice free driveway for under *$25.00. Not to mention the additional benefit that the system will automatically start and shut whether its 2 o'clock in the morning or 2 o'clock in the afternoon, whether you're at home on the weekend or at work. You can't beat that!
Please choose the application:
Input the cost your utility charges per KW (kilowatt):
In the NY, NJ, PA, CT which is our installation area, customers pay in a range of 0.07 to 0.13 cents per kilowatts. *Utility bills include other items such as utility taxes, premiums on summer airconditioning / pool electric usage, etc. In the winter when your new Snow and Ice Melt system is waiting to activate, your utility kW price is at the lowest of the year because there are no summer time premium fees. Additionally in most areas we can get you approved for a year round lower electrical kW (kilowatt) rate.
An average kW cost of 0.06 cents to 0.13 cents per kilowatt is charged by the utilities. If you're unsure, use the default amount of 0.09 cents as an estimated average. If you want to input your own number it must be in the format of 0.00. Example: if you believe your utility is charging you 9 cents per kW the input is 0.09, if you believe it is 7 cents per kW then the input must be 0.07, if your kW rate is 7 and one half cents (7.5 cents) round up the input to 0.08.

How much is a Snow and Ice Melt System:
We are sorry but to tell you the cost to install a radiant heated driveway we have not seen yet would not be a quote, in reality it would be a nothing more than a guess and truly not a good one. The reason is that we do not know if you're using: Concrete, Asphalt, Pavers, Chip and Tar or Gravel. We do not know where the electrical panels are or where the sensor will go. We do not know the square footage and more.
From a Bluestone Walkway
To a 700' driveway with a 32 degree incline
each project is unique as are the costs.
So if you are interested in a quote you can speak with our office at 973-728-5745 to either schedule a date for an on site visit to get site dimensions, check the infrastructure, prepare the calculations and provide you with a price. If your residence, business, sidewalk or business is visable on Google Earth we can provide a phone consultation.
If you have a standard driveway that fits one of the possible layouts below then you can use that square footage number above to estimate the operational cost per storm event. If you have the actual length and width of your driveway you can forward that information to us and we'll do the calculations for you.
